The Leadership Of The Santa Cruz Zen Center

Widening Our Community Engagement

precepts

In the Global Sangha we practice with environmental and social concerns of our community. Staying close to the body and breath, we take on projects outside the zendo that reflect the interconnectedness of all things.

Each Friday morning at 9am we gather at Zen Center to prepare a meal for the Homeless Garden Project. We take soup, rice, and vegetables to the homeless trainees who are learning valuable job skills at this vocational training center. Later we deliver a soup to the local shelter where it is served for dinner.

Friday evenings at 6:45 Zen Center hosts a one-hour Recovery meeting. With meditation and compassionate support we look deeply at our addictions, relationships, and emotions, and practice liberation and healing.

A group of Zen Center students marches each year in the local LGBT Parade to help celebrate diversity in our community. Zen Center participates in the annual Japanese Cultural Fair. We have sponsored a workshop on homelessness and members have also worked to make our Center environmentally green.
